During winter break 2024-2025, I had the amazing opportunity to venture to Nepal to participate in a 3 credit graduate-level course through George Mason University titled “Conservation Storytelling”.
Learning with a diverse 17-person class ranging from business and environmental science majors to many who have not held a camera in their life, as well as skilled photographers and filmmakers, we traveled across the country in pursuit of conservation stories to capture via film and photography. Our amazing trip guides and professor immersed us in the sights and sounds of Nepal as well as intensive filmmaking experiences geared towards any experience.
Kathmandu from December 28-30
Chitwan December 30-January 1
Pokhara January 2-3
Marpha January 3-6
Pokhara January 7
Kathmandu January 8-12
Istanbul, Turkey layover January 13-14
From the George Mason University website:
“Using the backdrop of Nepal, students will be taught basic outdoor filmmaking techniques ranging from scouting locations to learning how to capture beautiful time-lapse sequences. Practice gained from this course will be useful to all with interest and a desire to learn how to impact conservation using visual media. Additionally it will provide an incredible opportunity to develop a portfolio for those working in film or communication.”
